Open PhD/postdoc position: Micromechanical Modelling of Skeletal Muscles

Submitted by Markus Böl on

Research:

Finite element simulations are nowadays an integral part of the development and construction of technical products. The enlargement of FEM on questions of the biomechanical problems is partially succeeded, but fails often due to the very complex organic structure of the biological material. Even on the subject of skeletal muscle modelling endures a large demand in the consequent development of efficient finite element tools. Such a finite element tool should cover the whole field of mechanical-physiological behaviour of skeletal muscles. The advantage in comparison to so-called stand-alone programs lies in the optimal coordination between the single processes, which leads finally to a simulation of the whole physiological contraction process.

Job description:

The goal of this project is the development of an efficient three-dimensional model for the mathematical description and simulation of the physiological behaviour of skeletal muscles. The research will involve experimental, theoretical and computational mechanics.

Requirements:

We are looking for a science-driven, enthusiastic candidate with experience in mechanics, continuum/numerical mechanics, biomechanics, mathematics, or physics. Experience with basic mechanical testing techniques is also appreciated.

Location:

The position is situated at the University of Technology Braunschweig, in the Institute of Solid Mechanics.
