PhD scholarship in numerical modelling of composite wind turbine blades and their failure, in Denmark, Roskilde
PhD Scholarship for 3 years, in Technical University of Denmark, in Roskilde (30 km from Danish capital, Copenhagen).
Deadline for application: November 10.
Start of work: between March and May 2025.
Your background: Master degree in Mechanics, Materials science or related topics. Knowledge of finite element modelling, strength of materials, Abaqus, and programmingh languages, preferably Python (numpy). Demonstrated experience in preparing scientific publications is an advantage.
Topic: In this work, you will investigate mechanisms of damage of extra-large wind turbine blades, using the methods of computational mechanics and finite element modelling. You will develop computational models of wind turbine blade damage under the mechanisms specific for extra-large blades, including increased tip velocity and the larger role of torsional forces, and explore solutions to mitigate the damage risks. The model can include adhesive joint model, with structured, engineered adhesives.
