PhD position in experimental materials and mechanics - University of Alabama

Kmomeni's picture

We seek a full-time Ph.D. student to work on the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) of nickel-based superalloys in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alabama. The position will start in January 2021 and will be for four years. It will be funded through a new NSF project on surface engineering of the nickel-based superalloys. The goal is to explore and understand the strengthening and precipitate interactions. A strong background in materials science, electron microscopy (in particular, transmission electron microscopy), and familiarity with nickel-based superalloys are needed. The ideal candidate is also expected to have the ability to conduct scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) as well as TEM sample preparation using a focused ion beam (FIB).

Due to current circumstances, the candidate MUST be currently in the U.S.

Applicants should send their CV with a list of references and two letters of recommendation to:

Dr. Keivan Davami
