Fully funded PhD position in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Clemson University

Submitted by Zhaoxu on

One or two fully funded PhD positions (tuition plus research/teaching assistantships) are immediately available in Dr. Zhaoxu Meng’s Lab in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Clemson University during the academic year 2019~2020 (can start from spring semester).

Our research goal is to advance the design and development of advanced materials in different engineering disciplines by drawing inspirations from nature, e.g. impact-resistant materials inspired from lobster cuticles and fracture-resistant materials inspired from the multi-level structures widely found in nature. The main focus of our work is establishing computational models at multiple length and time scales with emphasis on advanced manufacturing processes/materials. Future research projects will closely collaborate with manufacturing research groups, Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) (https://cuicar.com/), industrial companies, and National Laboratories.

Candidates with a strong interest and background in computational and solid mechanics, multiscale modeling, nanocomposites, and advanced materials are welcome to apply. Master degree is not required but considered as a plus.

Interested candidates can send a CV, a copy of the transcript, and a brief description of prior research experience to Dr. Zhaoxu Meng at zhaoxumeng2018 [at] u.northwestern.edu with a subject title “PhD application”. Evaluations will start immediately until filled.
