Postdoc position in mechanical metamaterials at Sandia
I would like to call your attention to a postdoc opening at Sandia National Labs (Albuquerque, NM; www.sandia.gov) in the area of structural metamaterials design, fabrication, and testing. We have an exciting new project to explore novel unit cell archetypes and innovative lattice materials. The project involves a small, diverse interdisciplinary team with expertise in design (homogenization theory, topology optimization), additive manufacturing (metal, ceramic, polymer; macro and microscale), and materials characterization/testing (microstructure & defects characterization, quasi-static and dynamic mechanical testing at the macro and microscale. The project is expected to produce impactful publications & patents, and to help solve important engineering challenges.
Specifically, we are looking for an inventive individual with a mechanical engineering or materials science background and familiarity in the experimental facets of metamaterial production and/or testing. Experience in related domains such as mechanical design, structural dynamics, additive manufacturing, or mechanical testing are all valuable attributes.
In addition to internal team collaborations, the postdoc will have an opportunity to interact with external researchers who submit user proposals to the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (cint.lanl.gov), a NanoScience Research Center funded by the DOE office of Basic Energy Science.
While the project is unclassified, the postdoc will be asked to obtain a US DOE Security Clearance so they can be available to support the broader mission of Sandia National Labs and be a potential staff candidate. THIS POSITION WILL REQUIRE US CITIZENSHIP.
Sandia offers a highly competitive salary, and a world-class national laboratory research environment with over 12,000 employees.
If you know of someone who may be interested, please have them reply to blboyce@sandia.gov with a CV.
Thank you!
