Postdoctoral position in mechanics of architectured materials
The Laboratory for Advanced Materials and Bioinspiration (http://barthelat-lab.mcgill.ca) at McGill University has a new opening for a Post-doctoral researcher with a strong background in mechanics of materials, fracture mechanics and experimental mechanics.
The research project will explore bioinspired microarchitectures to increase and amplify the mechanical performance of engineering materials (glasses, ceramics, polymers). We are particularly interested in the development of nacre-like ceramic / polymeric composites, multilayered conch shell-like protective panels and novel bio-inspired designs for laminated glass design. The project involves modeling (micromechanics, fracture mechanics), design optimization, fabrication (3D printing, three-dimensional laser engraving) and experiments (quasi-static and impact). The project involves close interactions with three other postdocs and six PhD students, as well as collaborations with other departments at McGill (Chemistry, Biology, Surgery and Bioengineering) and with industrial partners. Funding: NSERC / FRQNT / CIHR.
The term of the appointment is one year with possible renewal. If interested, please send your full CV to francois.barthelat@mcgill.ca. Due to the large volume of applications, we will be able to respond only to candidates selected for an interview.
