Temple University Mechanical Engineering Department Chair Opening Position
The College of Engineering at Temple University invites applications for the position of Chair of the Mechanical Engineering Department. The Mechanical Engineering Department serves more than 550 undergraduate majors and 50 graduate students, and includes 21 full-time faculty and three full-time support staff.
As the largest department in the College, the Mechanical Engineering Department seeks applicants with a clear vision for the evolution of engineering pedagogy for the 21 st century. The successful candidate will be a dynamic individual with leadership experience and an established history of excellence in research and education, be active with externally funded research programs, and have an earned Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline. Special consideration will be given to candidates with a background/vision that matches Temple College of Engineering established areas of research focus.
Responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineering Chair include recruitment of full or part-time faculty, the mentoring of tenure-track faculty, pedagogical leadership, and promoting growth in the size, quality, and sustainability, of the graduate program. Furthermore, the Chair will be responsible for developing a Department Plan that provides specific strategic-decision benchmarks and guidelines, given the anticipated restructuring of higher education in the next decade.
