12 PhD and 2 Postdoctoral Research Associate positions in materials science
The Centre for Advanced Materials (Zentrum für Hochleistungsmaterialien – ZHM) is a joint institution in Hamburg, Germany, bringing together scientists from universities and non-university research organizations in the area of materials science and technology. Since its foundation by Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht (HZG)and associated institutions in the greater area of Hamburg in 2015, it supports education of young scientists, joint research projects as well as transfer to application in cooperation with industry. The Graduate School for Materials Science, which has been established in 2016, provides a common platform for recruiting, training and networking of PhD students and early-career scientists.
The Collaborative Research Centre SFB 986 “Tailor-Made Multi-Scale Materials Systems – M³”, which is the leading project within the Centre for Advanced Materials, is entering its second, four-year funding period. The SFB 986 is a joint project of TUHH, HZG, the University of Hamburg (UHH), and the German Electron Synchrotron (DESY). The SFB 986 is set to both develop and manufacture multi-scale structured materials with tailor-made mechanical, electrical, and photonic properties. Three interconnected project areas investigate this innovation potential:
A: Quasi-self-similar hierarchical materials systems
B: Nano-structured multi-phase materials systems and
C: Materials systems for photonics at high temperatures.
