Research Associate/Senior Research Associate in Computational Mechanics

Salary

Grade F: £28,132 - £36,661

Grade G: £37,756 - £40,046, rising to £45,053

Closing date: 11 April 2014

You will work on the EPSRC funded interdisciplinary project – “A New Frontier in Design: The Simulation of Open Engineered Biological Systems”. Newcastle University is one of the five UK Universities successful in obtaining such an EPSRC Frontier Engineering award. This ambitious projectenvisages simulating the effect of the fluid shear stress on the bacteria and its aggregates living within the open biological system. The envisaged model will be integrated with other individual models developed by the synthetic biology and meta-community teams for scaling up to higher spatial dimensions.  This will require novel scaling strategies and it will be carried out in conjunction with state-of-the-art high performance computing.

You will have a PhD in either computational fluid dynamics (CFD) or computational solid mechanics with substantial experience in the application and development of either CFD codes or finite element code. Previous experience in applied mathematical modelling is essential.

This position is fixed term for 3 years in the first instance and you will be expected to start as soon as possible. Informal enquiries can be made to Dr. Jinju Chen (Jinju.chen [at] ncl.ac.uk (Jinju[dot]chen[at]ncl[dot]ac[dot]uk)).
