Abaqus - uniformly meshing a sphere

Submitted by bharathkoya on
Hi,

I have a small problem in generating a mesh for a sphere in abaqus.

I
am able to create a sphere using a 3D shell geometry, but I am unable
to uniformly mesh it. All I can see is an irregular mesh with
quadrilateral elements. I wanted to use hexahedral elements for the
sphere with uniform meshing and I tried using 'create bottom - up
mesh', but of no use.

Sorry guys, I know I've done it a long time ago. Can't figure it out now. Please help.

Thanx.

 hi Bharath,

you need to partition the geometry into some regular shape if you want regularity in your mesh ( in any 2D or 3D, solid or shell geometry).

Hi Prost,

I tried creating a sphere with shell geometry and meshing it with hex elements. But for my problem, using hex elements is not completely necessary but I need a uniform mesh for the sphere.

So, I created a sphere with shell revolution geometry and in the mesh controls I used the option "sweep" to get a uniform mesh with quad elements.

Good Luck!
