Reivew of fracture toughness testing and standardization

Submitted by xkuizhu on

Recently, a comprehensive review paper on fracture toughness testing and ASTM standardization was published by Dr. Zhu and Prof. Joyce in the journal of Engineering Fracture Mechanics:

XK Zhu and JA Joyce, "Review of fracture toughness (G, K, J, CTOD, CTOA) testing and standardization," Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 85, 2012: 1-46.

Welcome your comments and suggestions.

Pretty good reviews on fracture toughness testing on standard specimens, e.g. SENB, CT, etc.

It is also suggested to take a look at Xiankui's paper on the constraint correction for J-R and CTOD-R curves.

"Application of Constraint Corrected J-R Curves to Fracture Analysis of Pipelines", Paper no. PVP2005-71202 pp. 111-121 http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/PVP2005-71202

Many thanks for your nice comments and recommendation, Enyang! Fracture toughness is a key parameter of fracture mechanics method, and its accurate measurement is critical to apply fracture mechanics to engineering desgin and structural integrity analysis. Hope more young scientists/researchers join in the community of fracture toughness testing and evaluation. You have done a good job on J-R curve testing for X80 steel in the IPC 2012 paper.
