A summer school on Nonsmooth Contact and Impact Mechanics. Aussois. September 2012

Submitted by vacary on

Dear Colleagues,

A summer school on Nonsmooth Contact and Impact Mechanics is organized from September 10 to 14 at Aussois in the French Alpes. The main focus of the school will be on modeling and numerical/simulation  aspects,  and the following topics will be covered:

Algorithms for contact detection in time-stepping numerical methods

Convergence of time-stepping methods

Multiple impacts in multibody systems

Painlevé paradoxes

Waves in chains of balls

Simulating large fiber assemblies such as hair

For more details concerning the program, the speakers, and the registration, please visit the web site :

The school is primarily intended to all researchers and engineers working in the field of Contact or Impact Mechanics, is also of interest to other scientific communities where such tools are used (robotics, computer graphics, haptic simulation, automatic control, applied mathematics).

It's noteworthy that in order to encourage PhD and post-doc students to attend the school, the registration fees have been set at a very low level.

Hoping to see you in Aussois,

The organizing committee.
