Mechanics of Materials Special Issue on Mechanics of Energy Conversion and Storage

As advanced energy materials with higher conversion efficiencies, enhanced storage capacities, and better reliabilities are being developed to meet the ever-increasing global energy needs, mechanics has emerged as one of the key factors that affect the performance of energy systems. In thermoelectric energy conversion for waste heat recovery, thermal stress is a big concern for reliabilities, and the efficiency and reliability of photovoltaic materials is similarly affected by strain and mechanical defects.

Connecting beam elements (B21/B22) with plane stress (CPS4) elements

Hello All,

I am trying to build a homogenized model of beam elements and 2D solid elements in abaqus 6.12. I tried connecting beam elements with plane stress elements through sharing (common) nodes with basic interaction module. The node of beam element (lower end) and node of solid element (upper) are connected through a wire offered in interaction module. This wire have been assigned connector properties. I tried to connect with axial (translation) + rotation connector, so the bending of beam can be transferred to solid elements. But I did not get expected behavior.

How to use abaqus input files from abaqus example problems guide

I am new to abaqus and am going through this tutorial on "Damage and failure of a laminated composite plate".  I find lot of input files at the bottom of this example. I tried "importing" them by going to file->import but I find that there is no geometry or mesh associated with it. Does one create the geometry oneself? How do we use the sample ".inp" and ".f" files to learn about abaqus sample problems.
