Post-doctoral position at the University of Texas

The Research Center for Mechanics of Solids, Structures and Materials at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for an open position as Post-doctoral Fellow. The specific project involves the characterization of the constitutive and failure behavior of structural materials (aluminum alloys, steels, titanium alloys, metal-matrix composites, polymers and other selected materials) under quasi-static and dynamic conditions.

Post-doc position opening in POSTECH, South Korea

A postdoctoral researcher position is available in the area of sheet metal forming, plasticity theory, computational modeling of forming of advanced high strength steels, light-weight alloys  at POSTECH (Pohang University of Science and Technology) working under the supervision of Prof. Myoung-Gyu Lee. He/She will also work with Prof. Frederic Barlat who is a world famous scholar in the field of plasticity. Candidates with a strong background in plasticity theory, computational mechanics of sheet metals, failure analysis are highly encouraged to apply.

Question for post-processing after each increment and return it back to calculation (non-local damage)

Choose a channel featured in the header of iMechanica:

Dear everyone:

I am trying to use a nonlocal damage criteria to simulate the crack growth, which can reduce the mesh dependency.

In abaqus, VUMAT/UMAT is doing computation at integration point for each increment, but I want to do the post-processing after each increment to get the non-local state variable and return this value back to calculation.

Such as taking average value of one state variable within a distance about the center of one element, then return it back to another state variable to this element.

6th Australasian Congress on Applied Mechanics (ACAM 6)

The National Committee on Applied Mechanics of Engineers Australia is hosting the 6th Australasian Congress on Applied Mechanics (ACAM 6) in Perth, Australia on December 12th-15th 2010.

ACAM 6 (http://www.acam6.org/) aims to provide an international forum for researchers, industry practitioners, engineers and postgraduate scholars to promote, exchange and disseminate knowledge and experiences of the most recent results and advances in a wide range of topics in Applied Mechanics.

Symposium Honoring Professor J. W. Hutchinson at IMECE'08 (Boston)

To coincide with this year’s IMECE in Boston, the Fracture and Failure Mechanics Technical Committee is organizing a series of sessions to honor Professor John W. Hutchinson’s seminal contributions as he moves into semi-retirement. The organizers request abstracts in contemporary research related to fracture and failure mechanics. Topics that relate to Professor Hutchinson's many past and present research activities in other areas are also welcome.
