One PhD position is available for Fall 2020 in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stony Brook University, New York Long Island. The research program focuses on the mechanics and design of novel advanced materials and metamaterials to achieve high mechanical performance, new wave propagation features, and multifunctional characteristics. The candidates with background in solid mechanics and finite element analysis are highly encouraged to apply. 

A fully funded PhD thesis project is available at Polytechnique Montreal on Fluid-Structure Interactions in hydraulic turbines. 

This project is to be done in collaboration with Université Laval in Québec city where a fully instrumented test turbine is available. The thesis is part of a large research consortium involving two universities and the major industrial players in the design and operation of large hydraulic turbines in the province of Quebec (Andritz Hydro, EDF, General Electric, Hydro Québec, Voith Hydro).

Looking for prospective PhD students with strong background in solid mechanics and numerical methods to join the Computational Mechanics and Multiphysics Group at the University of Wisconsin Madison. Background in modeling contact or contact mechanics is a big plus but not essential.  

The research scope is in the broader areas of mechanics driven multiphysics in morphogenesis/embroyogenesis phenomena (Biophysics) and microstructure evolution in metallic alloys.

Mechanics fundamentally governs the way cells and tissues adopt their functional shapes, the way they resist stresses, and the way they move, individually or collectively. In turn, mechanical forces critically influence cell behavior. Over the last decade, the field of mechanobiology has emerged, emphasizing the tight interplay between mechanics and biological function.

A funded PhD position is open for summer or fall 2017 in the Mechanics and Dynamics Laboratory in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Wichita State University. The research program will focus on the design and development of mechanical metamaterials, their application towards aerospace structures, and will involve a combination of analytical, numerical, and experimental methods. The candidate must have a MS in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering and a strong background in structural mechanics and dynamics.

Our partner Weizmann Institute Science in Israel is currently trying to fill a PhD position for the FiBreMoD project. The title of the PhD project is "Microscale matrix and interfacial properties of fibre-reinforced composites", and will be supervised by Prof. Daniel Wagner. A fully funded thesis project is proposed at Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal, Canada to start in 2017.
