Postdoc position at Western University, Canada: MD simulation of nuclear fuels

Applications are invited for a 2-year postdoc position in the area of molecular dynamic simulation of irradiation effects. This position is a full-time position at the University of Western Ontario, Canada, and the selected applicant can start effective immediately. In addition, this position is extendable for two more years, depending on the availability of funds and the applicant’s performance.

The aim of the project is to understand the micromechanics of deformation and fracture of advanced nuclear fuels under various thermomechanical loads and irradiation environments. The selected applicant will collaborate with other group members of Multiscale Deformation Lab as well as with scientists from the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories.

Applicants will be assessed based on how they meet the following criteria:

  •          Prior publications in relevant research areas, i.e, MD simulation and irradiation effects.
  •          Excellent degree in the relevant discipline
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.

The following qualities are desirable:

  •        Strong background in MD simulation
  •        Strong background in fracture mechanics, and modeling deformation mechanisms
  • Ability to program (MATLAB, Python, Fortran, etc)
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to conduct other numerical modeling, e.g., finite element.

Application procedure:

Please email your CV and cover letter to Hamid Abdolvand. This position is open until filled.
