Glad to share that the University of Pavia, together with Politecnico di Milano, Technion - Israel Institute of Technology and University of Bologna, organizes the International Summer School “Mechanics of active soft materials: experiments, theory, numerics, and applications” within the Lake Como School of Advanced Studies, from 1st to 5th July 2024 at Villa del Grumello (Como, Italy). https://star.lakecomoschool.org/

More information on how to participate, fees, program, and speakers: https://star.lakecomoschool.org/

This initiative is addressed to graduate and undergraduate students, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers in the fields of applied mathematics, mechanical, chemical, materials engineering, bioengineering, physics.

This school aims at creating a bridge between mechanics, chemistry, and physics to educate future scientists in the novel and fast-growing scientific framework of active soft matter.

Lectures will introduce participants to fundamental notions of solid, computational, and experimental mechanics for active soft materials, also tackling recent and underdeveloped aspects related to the use of artificial intelligence, fracture issues, the most used representative classes of materials and numerous innovative application fields. The School will enable participants to deepen their understanding of the matter, discovering new angles and interacting with prominent speakers, who will share their expertise with the audience.

During practical hands-on sessions, participants will be able to carry out projects and physical activities related to the topics explained during the lectures. At the end of the School, the teams will make a pitch and the best one will be awarded.

Also, participants can show and discuss their research activities by dedicated poster sessions; in particular, awards will be assigned at the end of the school for the best poster.

Moreover, it will be possible for attendees to submit a contribution to the Special Issue “Mechanics, manufacturing, and applications of active soft materials and structures” to be published on the Springer journal "Mechanics of Soft Materials".
