We invite the mechanics community to participate in the U.S. Association for Computational Mechanics (USACM) workshop on “Data Driven and Computational Modeling of Materials Across Scales”. The workshop will broadly cover various aspects of multiscale methods, computational mechanics, and machine learning models (specific thrust areas listed below). The workshop is slated to be held at the University of California, Los Angeles during the dates May 10 - 12, 2023.

The invited speakers list includes:

I. Machine Learning Approaches to Problems in the Mechanics of Materials

  1. Rodrigo Freitas (MIT)

  2. Megan McCarthy (Sandia National Lab)

  3. Susanta Ghosh (Michigan Tech.)

  4. Stephen Niezgoda (Ohio State University)

II. Mechanics and Physics of Low-Dimensional Materials (Nanomaterials - 0D, 1D and 2D Materials)

  1. Horacio Espinosa (Northwestern University)

  2. Arend van der Zande (UIUC)

  3. Rui Huang (University of Texas at Austin)

  4. Babak Anasori (Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis)

III. Defects and Interfaces

  1. Abigail Hunter (Los Alamos National Laboratory)

  2. Jaafer El-Awady (Johns Hopkins)

  3. Jaime Marian (UCLA)

  4. Anter El-Azab (Purdue University)

IV. Multiscale Physics/Mechanics of Coarse-Graining

  1. Ananya Balakrishna (UCSB)

  2. Lori Graham-Brady (Johns Hopkins)

  3. Giacomo Po (University of Miami)

  4. Long-Qing Chen (Penn State)

  5. Somnath Ghosh (Johns Hopkins)

V. Multiscale Design of Materials and Inverse Problems

  2.  Marianna Maiaru, (University of Massachusetts Lowell)

  3. Abdon Pena Francesch  (University of Michigan)

  4. Ankit Srivastava (Illinois Institute of Technology)

There will also be poster presentations and lightning talks by graduate students and postdocs at the end of the first two days of the workshop.

The deadline for early registration is April 20th. The deadline to book a room at the UCLA guest house is April 9th. We are now accepting abstracts for those students/post-doctoral fellows who wish to make a poster presentation of their work and give a 3-minute lightning talk. The deadline for poster submissions is April 15.
