Funded PhD position in Mechanical and Aerospace Eng. Dept. at NC State University

EnergyX Lab (Energy Exploration Laboratory) at North Carolina State University is seeking a highly qualified Ph.D. candidate. The group has extensive collaboration and active research projects in different energy-related areas with several leading US national laboratories as well as US companies.

We are currently looking for highly qualified PhD students in the areas of advanced heat pumps, electronic thermal management, phase-change heat trnasfer, and energy-efficient buildings.

About the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at NC State University:

The MAE department currently has 49 tenure-track faculty, 7 non-tenure-track teaching faculty, and 16 staff members. The Department has an enrollment of over 1,200 undergraduates and 400 graduate students. The department is housed in Engineering Building III, a four-story, 250,000-square-foot facility built in 2010. North Carolina State University will add about 4,000 students – 2,000 undergraduates and 2,000 graduate students – in engineering disciplines and computer science over the next five years. The growth will push NC State’s College of Engineering to around 14,000 students and the university’s total student population to more than 40,000.

The growth will be funded by Engineering North Carolina’s Future, a state legislative initiative that will provide NC State with $20 million over the next two years to hire additional faculty as well as support staff including academic advisors and laboratory personnel to support the larger student body. The legislature is also providing NC State with $30 million to support facility upgrades to accommodate these additional STEM students.
