Position description

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE), at the University of California, San Diego, invites applications for an Associate or Full Professor position in Aerospace Engineering.

Of particular interest is research focused on aerospace vehicles and mission design including, but not limited to, advanced flight dynamics, hypersonic flight and propulsion, fluid-structure interactions, net-zero carbon emission aviation, and UAVs, as well as research motivated by space-based systems including, but not limited to, low-cost launch systems technologies, emerging spacecraft power, propulsion, thermal management, guidance/navigation & control, novel sensor systems, micro and nanosatellites; crewed and robotic systems, space-based assembly and manufacturing, and in-situ resource recovery and utilization.

Candidates should have a demonstrated record for teaching excellence and the highest standards of scholarship, and professional activity in their research. In addition, candidates must demonstrate past involvement in a commitment to increasing diversity and inclusion and have a plan and desire to participate in the School's diversity initiatives.

The required job duties include developing an excellent research program, teaching of undergraduate and graduate students, and service activities.

We especially welcome candidates who have contributed to programs that increase the access and success of underrepresented students or faculty in engineering and who are committed to, and experienced in, building an excellent and diverse academic environment.

Salary: Level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications; salary based on UC pay scales and market conditions.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

• A Ph.D. degree is required in Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline.
