The faculty of Aerospace Engineering of Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands) is looking for a postdoctoral researcher on multifunctional structural batteries composites to work on a project regarding the future of electric aviation. Interested? Keep reading:

Job description

The postdoctoral position is part of a EU-funded project on the future of electrical aviation. Due to the prominent role that batteries will play, and the challenging restrictions connected to their weight, several concepts are being developed to address this issue, ranging from multifunctional structures that operate as batteries and as structural components to multifunctional structural batteries composite materials with a high functional integration. The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for (1) identifying the most promising concepts and designs of multifunctional structures and composite materials (medium and long term development) (2) create models to establish the mechanical and electrical performance of the proposed structural batteries composites materials, with emphasis on their fracture limits and functional lifetime and (3) analyze from the model predictions the effect that structural batteries may have on the design of future electrical aircrafts in terms of overall weight savings and total energy storage capacity.

Requirements

We are looking for a candidate with a PhD degree in aerospace, mechanical, civil, electrical or materials science engineering or a related field with a strong background in modelling of (multifunctional) composite materials and/or structures. Good programming skills and a strong background or interest in (electrical) aviation are appreciated. The candidate is expected to work on the boundary of several research domains, also in collaboration with multiple EU partners.

Conditions of employment

The position is full-time for 14 months. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. The TU Delft offers a customisable compensation package, a discount on health insurance and sport memberships, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged.

For international applicants we offer the Coming to Delft Service and Partner Career Advice to assist you with your relocation. An International Children's Centre offers childcare and there is an international primary school.
