Faculty Position in Packaging Innovation, Design and Additive Manufacturing

The Michigan State University (MSU) School of Packaging invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the area of Packaging Innovation, Design and Additive Manufacturing. The appoint will be at the assistant professor level with a combined research/teaching/service responsibility. Review of applications will begin on February 1, 2018 and will continue until the position is filled.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally-recognized research program in packaging which leverages emerging technologies such as additive/subtractive manufacturing, nanoscale engineering or other fabrication processes to obtain specific component properties of packaged products in order to enhance system performance (e.g. electric, thermal, mechanical). Potential topics of interest include: the relationship between system design and environmental factors such as compression, shock, fragility, vibration, pressure, and system performance.

The candidates should have demonstrated excellence in original research and demonstrate strong fundamental knowledge in additive/subtractive manufacturing approaches; ideally, they will have experience with product development processes and optimization techniques. Experience with finite element modeling (FEM), computational fluid mechanics (CFD) and system modeling is highly desirable.
