The MIT Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) invites applications for several tenure-track faculty positions to begin July 2017 or thereafter. Appointments will be at the assistant or untenured associate professor level. In special cases, a senior faculty appointment may be possible.  We will consider exceptional candidates in all areas relevant to the mission and vision of the department, but the department is especially looking for candidates to expand or strengthen its current areas of:

  • Environmental chemistry, including computational chemistry
  • Environmental fluid mechanics, including coastal engineering
  • Geomechanics, related to subsurface energy and urban infrastructure (broadly including geological environments and geological materials)
  • Terrestrial plant ecology, including natural and managed ecosystems (including agroecosystems)
  • Transportation systems, including innovative mobility technologies, services and infrastructure (applicants with a background in operations research, industrial, systems, electrical, or transportation engineering, or a related relevant field, are encouraged to apply)

The candidate should have demonstrated excellence in original research and demonstrate strong fundamental knowledge in a core area. Faculty responsibilities will include teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, developing course materials, student advising, conducting original scholarly research, and supervision of student research. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. by the beginning of employment.

Applications are being accepted electronically at https://school-of-engineering-faculty-search.mit.edu/cee-search/register.tcl. Each application must include: a curriculum vitae; the names and addresses of three or more references, a two-page strategic statement of research interests, a one-page statement of teaching interests, and electronic copies of no more than three representative publications. It is the responsibility of the candidate to arrange for reference letters to be uploaded at https://school-of-engineering-faculty-search.mit.edu/cee-search/letters.

Applications received by December 15, 2016 will be given priority.

With MIT’s strong commitment to diversity in engineering education, research and practice we especially encourage minorities and women to apply.
