UCLA - Ph.D. positions in mechanics of materials, soft robotics, machine learning from Fall 2022

We are looking for multiple Ph.D. students with a background in solid and structural mechanics to work on the mechanics of slender and flexible structures. Some experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence will be helpful. At the very least, the candidate should be good with computer programming (ideally C/C++ and Linux environment). They should have the confidence and a track record to quickly master analytical and software tools in new fields. The Ph.D. students will work in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment. They will be supervised by Prof. M.

Postdoctoral Position at UCLA in mechanics/machine learning/computational science

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow with a background in solid mechanics, machine learning, computational science, or relevant fields to work at the intersection of mechanics, machine learning (ML), and/or manufacturing. If the candidate has no proven record in ML, he/she should have the confidence and a track record to quickly master analytical and software tools in new fields. The postdoctoral fellow will work in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment. He/she will be supervised by Prof. M.

Postdoctoral position in mechanics/robotics at UCLA

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to work at the intersection of robotics and mechanics. The selected candidate will join the Structures-Computer Interaction Laboratory, a new group in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of the University of California, Los Angeles. Visit our website: https://structures.computer. The research project aims to use collaborative robots to investigate the mechanics of structures (slender/flexible structures in particular). Our lab is equipped with a Sawyer collaborative robot from Rethink Robotics. We will explore how continuum mechanics simulations can be used to train robots to perform simple tasks, e.g. tying knots in ropes. Details of the project will be determined after consultation with the candidate.
