Damage models implementation in ABAQUS
Submitted by Hakkı ISIK on Tue, 2011-07-19 06:33.Hi all
I am M.Sc. sutdent in Istanbul Technical University and my research subject is comparision of several ductile damage models both computationaly and experimentally.
I am trying to compare ductile damage models such as Freudenthal,Cockroft,Ayada ,Brozzo etc. computationally using ABAQUS and seeking a way to implement these damage models in ABAQUS.
To obtain each models damage result individually should damage model be implemented in ABAQUS or can a regular tensile test results be used for calculation of damage values.
Could you please advise me for methodolgy to run a simulation to obtain ductile damage values accordng to models mentioned above.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Hakkı ISIK.

Survey on XFEM: is XFEM good at characterizing Failure rather than Fracture?
Submitted by tvpc22 on Fri, 2010-06-11 10:47.Would like to hear your expertise/user/non-expert/sceptic comments on XFEM. Here are some of the challenges. Would like to hear your relections.
1. Can XFEM be utilized in characterizing Failure rather than Fracture?
2. What sort of challenges XFEM still have with respect to Fracture Mechanics?
3. How the Fracture mechanics benefit the industry, from the perspective of strcutural integrity?
4. Failue investigations vs. Fracture investigations: benefit to industry?
5. Academist vs Engineer: Perspective on XFEM
If possible, please vindicate your justifications with any relevant literature. Would like to see where and how XFEM is evolving.

Generate softening curve
Submitted by ss09 on Thu, 2010-03-11 23:09.Hello,
I seek help from the forum regarding the following. Because I am very new to mechanics.
I have a continuum damage mechanics model with me. I have set up a problem of a typical three point bending test on a notched beam. The notch in the center of the specimen and extends from the bottom face up to the middle of the thickness. It is a plane stress problem. Now I want to simulate load-displacement curve obtained from the experiment (s).

Fracture Mechanics vs. Damage Mechanics
Submitted by Fatemeh S. Imani on Thu, 2009-05-21 20:06.I was wondering what are the advantages of damage mechanics and fracture mechanics over each other? Specially in order to model the delamination phenomenon.

Postdoctoral Position at Penn State University in Multiscale Computational Dynamics
Submitted by Joseph P. Cusumano on Wed, 2008-02-06 19:37.We have an immediate opening in the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics for a postdoctoral research associate in multiscale modeling and computational mechanics. The focus of this position is on the modeling, simulation, and analysis of the nonlinear evolution of coupled macro/microstructure in failure processes, with an emphasis toward structural health monitoring. Coupled-field models using continuum damage variables will be used to study the fundamental spatiotemporal features of damage evolution, particularly regarding the nature and origin of unpredictability in damage processes. The candidate must have a solid general background in theoretical mechanics and dynamics, and be familiar with nonlinear finite element analysis
