Several PhD student positions available at the MAE department of University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL

There are several PhD student positions available immediately at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of the University of Central Florida (UCF). Students will work on a recent DOE funded project on Cu(Al)/CNT metallic matrix nano composites. Students with background in solid mechanics, finite element analysis, or nano material processing are particularly encouraged to apply. If you are interested, please send your resume and representative publications (if have) to Dr. Yuanli Bai (bai@ucf.edu) or Dr. Quanfang Chen (Quanfang.chen@ucf.edu). The openings are for either Spring 2017 or Fall 2017. Excellent candidates can also be nominated to apply for fellowships of university level.

Effects of geometrical and mechanical properties of fiber and matrix on composite fracture toughness

Composites reinforced by thinner fibers are intensively studied in recent years and expected to have better
mechanical properties. With development of nanotechnology, the diameter of fiber can be as thin as
several nanometers, such as nanofibers and nanotubes. Then, do these thinner fibers definitely result in
composites with better mechanical properties? In this paper, the toughening effect of reinforcing fibers in
composites is investigated based on the three-level failure analysis model. It is found that thinner

call for abstracts – Multifunctional Composites

Dear colleagues,

I am organizing sessions related to “Multifunctional Composites” at the following conferences in 2014. I would like to personally invite you and your research group to submit an abstract.

American Society for Composites (ASC) 29th Technical Conference
Abstract submission deadline: Feb 1, 2014
Session Title: A03 – Multifunctional Composites (co-chair Dr. Jandro Abot)

Mechanics of Composites (MECHCOMP)
Abstract submission deadline: Oct 30, 2013
Session Title: #10 - Multifunctional Composites

6th International Conference on Fracture, Composites and Adhesives 11-15 September 2011

This will be the 6th International Conference in the series organised by the European Structural Integrity Society - Technical Committee 4 on Fracture Mechanics related to Polymers, Polymeric Composites and Adhesives. We are again inviting papers in the areas reflecting the current and future interests of TC4 as listed below.

Both experimental and analytical work is sought in order to give a balanced view of the subject areas:
