Hi,

I am currently trying to model a beam element to run through the centre of a semicircular solid part in 3D in Abaqus/CAE (ie: I'm trying to apply the beam element to only half of the semicircular solid).  I can add the beam element to the whole section but I do not want this - I only want half the part to be modelled with this element. If I try to add beam section orientation to enable me to add the beam element , it comes up with an error and a message saying that my solid "part contains no wire features." I cannot draw my part as a wire feature because I need it to be 3D in order to carry out the work expected and required.

I am a relatively new user to Abaqus/CAE and I would be really appreciative of any help or direction which may be given as to how I can apply this beam element to a solid part as I have not come across it in the manuals or tutorials available. I haven't found a previous blog relating to this issue or a similar one but if you know of one, please feel free to direct me to it.
