Dear Colleagues

The existence of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics at Cornell University is being seriously threatened. Those of us associated with the Department feel that we make a unique contribution to the intellectual life and educational mission of the College of Engineering; we hope to continue this by preserving the Department.

If you agree with us, please let those in a position to influence the continued existence of the Department know. These include David Skorton <mailto:djs98@cornell.edu>, President of the University; Kent Fuchs <mailto:wkf3@cornell.edu>, Dean of the College of Engineering; Rosemary Avery <mailto:rja7@cornell.edu>, Faculty Member of the Board of Trustees; and Ron Ehrenberg <mailto:rge2@cornell.edu>, Faculty Member of the Board of Trustees.  These decisions are being made at a rapid pace (within days) so time is of the essence.

Thanks,
Alan Zehnder
