The College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Vermont is searching for an outstanding individual to be the Director of the School of Engineering. The School contains four ABET accredited undergraduate degree programs: in Civil, Environmental, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, and offers a BS in Engineering Management with the School of Business. The School also offers masters and doctoral programs in Civil & Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. There are also interdisciplinary masters programs in Biomedical Engineering and Materials Science with a doctorate in the latter and a proposed doctorate in the former. The School together with the Departments of Computer Science and Mathematics & Statistics comprise the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences, creating a unique integration of engineering, mathematics and computer science.

The School of Engineering is continuing to rise in national prominence as it works to expand undergraduate and graduate education and research in directions that emphasize holistic thinking and multidisciplinary strategies and methods ( http://www.uvm.edu/~cems/soe/ ). The College also continues a three-year strategic research initiative in the field of complex systems. In addition to housing the Center for Complex Systems (http://www.uvm.edu/~cems/complexsystems/ ), the College plays a major role in the UVM Transportation Research Center ( http://www.uvm.edu/~transctr/ ) and the Vermont Advanced Computing Center ( http://www.uvm.edu/~vacc/ ).

Qualifications for the position include an earned doctorate in an appropriate discipline, a strong record of teaching excellence, research and scholarly activity, external funding, and administrative leadership experience, establishing the credentials to be appointed as a full professor in the School. Candidates must demonstrate familiarity with ABET accreditation procedures and assessment. The successful candidate will be expected to work with the Dean of the College to lead the School to national prominence in both engineering education and selected areas of scholarship that will complement and build on College initiatives in complex systems research and University-wide initiatives in computational sciences, energy/environment, and/or life sciences. We are especially soliciting applications from scholars who will foster innovative approaches to interdisciplinary research and engineering education geared toward preparing engineering leaders.
