Dear Colleague:
In 2008 the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics (ESM) at Virginia Tech is celebrating its 100th year as a department.
To recognize this great milestone, ESM is hosting a mechanics conference during May 29-30, 2008.
In recognition of the fact that the study of composite materials has contributed so much to the world-wide reputation of the
department for almost one-half of a century, Professors Michael Hyer and Carl Herakovich are organizing sessions on composite materials and structures.
Several of these sessions will be dedicated to the memory of the ESM Professor Liviu Librescu. These sessions, organized by Professor Pier Marzocca
(Clarkson University) and Marek-Jerzy Pindera (University of Virginia) will honor and celebrate his many accomplishments with a series of invited talks
that will cover a broad range of research areas in which Professor Librescu has had a major influence. In particular, invited contributions will include topics
on composite materials and structures ranging from aeroelasticity, thermoelasticity and control of thin-walled composite structures to functionally graded materials
and related issues in the mechanics of heterogeneous materials. The attached file provides some of the details of the Liviu Librescu Memorial Sessions, and provides important links to related information.
We hope that you will be able to attend this conference and contribute to the sessions honoring Professor Librescu.
With best regards,
Pier Marzocca (pmarzocc@clarkson.edu) - Liviu Librescu Session Organizer, Clarkson University
Marek-Jerzy Pindera (mp3g@virginia.edu) - Liviu Librescu Session Co-Organizer, University of Virginia
