Notes

  • This is a first graduate course on solid mechanics. Prerequisites include an undergraduate course on strength of materials, and working knowledge in linear algebra, multivariable calculus, and differential equations.
  • Notes will be posted periodically. These notes are mainly written to clarify and focus my own thoughts, and are not self-contained. As such, the notes may present a distorted view of the subject and of the course.
  • The notes will be in the form of word file. Feel free to down load and modify them to suit your own need. If you would like to give a reference to the source, please cite the URL of this page: http://imechanica.org/node/203.
  • To be alerted of any new content added to this course, please subscribe to the RSS feed of the course. The URL of the feed is: http://imechanica.org/taxonomy/term/179,176,177/0/feed

No textbook is required. The McKay Library keeps some books reserved, including Timoshenko and Goodier, Malvern, Fung, Asaro and Lubarda.

Grading will be based on homework sets and a final exam.
