Google Reader Supports Search

Google Reader gets better now. It has added search within your feeds. The most convenient way to read any wed site, including iMechanica, is to use a RSS reader like Google Reader.

Short Video on how to add a RSS feed of iMech to Thunderbird

I also made a video that shows how to subscribe to comments on a post on iMechanica using a feed with Thunderbird.

A short video to explain how to subscribe to RSS news feeds

We've found a video that explains what the function of RSS is and how to use it. It is very clear, with diagrams and pictures of the websites that one needs to visit, and it's only 3 minutes long. It is called "RSS in Plain English".

free software allows users to receive and read rss from email

Great tips.

As I know, Some free software and web service allows users to receive and read rss feeds in your email client. like MailbyRSS , IzyNews, Info Aggregator,Oddpost, PopHeadlines and more.

MailbyRSS is a FREE service for authoring RSS channels by email. It is ideal for organizations that wish to augment their opt-in e-mail campaigns with RSS channels, providing them a way to ensure that the information they publish reaches subscribers without being blocked by spam lists or filters.

IzyNews, a revolutionary new way of receiving news and other RSS feeds in an eMail application. With IzyNews, you can subscribe to thousands of weblogs and professionally syndicated headlines feeds for delivery right into your eMail application.

PopHeadlines allows you to subscribe to RSS feeds and have them delivered to you through your email client. It provides a POP3 server which fetches items from RSS feeds and passes them on as normal emails. This allows you to read RSS feeds in your favourite email client - any email client.

Enjoy these, good luck.

RSS feed is a very convenient way to track comments

Dear Henry: I cannot find this button in Drupal. It should be a simple thing to do, but I don't know how.

However, I added a feed called "More comments" on the right side of iMechanica, using a module found by Michale Suo. It looks like an ugly hack, and we'll fix it when we have a better solution.

In general, a more effective way to track comments is to set up your own RSS feed reader. It takes 2 minutes to set up, and it is free. In particular, if you use Google Reader, you can track many, many comments, as well as all posts.

The Wall Street Journal free online

Starting this year, The Wall Street Journal goes free online. The New York Times has been free online for a long time. Both newspapers offer many RSS feeds:

The Wall Street Journal Feeds

The New York Times Feeds

Update on 8 January 2006. Unfortunately, the Wall Street Journal online was only free for one day.

Google Reader is an excellent RSS reader

On 28 September 2006, Google released a new version of Google Reader. For the past two weeks, I've been using it, and found it excellent. Take a look at this initial announcement and a short and helpful video.

Update on 4 Feburary 2007. I now use Google Reader exclusively, and find it truly convenient.

How to track comments

I have not found a RSS feed for comments in iMech. We'll try more, and perhaps install one. Meanwhile, there is a powerful software http://co.mments.com/. You can use it to track comments on any post you select on any blog, not just blogs in iMech. You can also subsribe to comments using co.mments. I learned about this software from Robbin Steif some time ago, and have been using it ever since. It woks like a charm.
