30 March 2007. At a suggestion of Henry Tan, an RSS feed for comments is added as a button"comment at a glance" on the right side of iMechanica.
29 March 2007. An aggregator, "Random readings", is added to the rightside of iMechanica.
7 March 2007. Michelle Oyen posted an entry "Making iMechanica a better global forum".
21 February 2007. At a suggestion of Michael Suo, a module of RSS feeds for comments is added.
16 February 2007. Chun Lu discovered that iMechanica also support Chinese, which let to a brief post for the Chinese New Year. Chun Lu also arranged Zhigang Suo to give a tutorial of iMechanica at the Institute of High Performance Computing of Singapore.
10 February 2007. Pradeep Sharma posted a suggestion of iMechanica get together at the next mechanics conference. This post led to a plan of get together at McMat 2007 in Austin.
3 February 2007. The number of registered users reaches 1000.
10 January 2007. At a suggestion of Ben Pu, a module of related links is added. The number of registered users reaches 800.
18 December 2006. iMechanica turns 100-day old, and has 619 registered users.
16 December 2006. A new channel, videos, is added to the header.
11 December 2006. Discussions on the Journal Club morph into operating notes of the Journal Club. The Journal Club Forum is created, and a tab "Journal Club" is added to the right side of iMechanica. The first theme of the month is due out in January 2007, with Michelle Oyen as the discussion leader.
24 November 2006. The Mechanics Education Forum is created.
20 November 2006. At a request of John Dolbow, a Computational Mechanics Forum was added, along with a few other forums. The old forum was set as a default, and renamed as Ask iMechanica, after an early post by Teng Li.
11 November 2006. A new channel, classics, is added to the header.
30 October 2006. At a suggestion of Eloy Villanueva, a tab "FAQ" is added to the right side of iMechanica. Eloy is a Harvard undergraduate with concentration in mechanical engineering. He is employee number 1 of iMechanica.
16 September 2006. Pradeep Sharma posted "Journal Club: Response/Feedback requested".
9 September 2006, Saturday. The Launch Day. After a week of intense testing by a small group of users, chiefly Zhigang Suo, Teng Li, Xi Chen, Rui Huang, Zhen Zhang, Ting Zhu, iMechanica went "officially" online, when an announcement was posted on AMN. The initial offering of iMechanica includes a blog for every registered user, and a site-wide forum to answer frequently asked questions. Featured in the headers are the following channels: research, education, mechanicians, opinions, industries, conferences, jobs, tips. In the small hours of the day, Teng and Zhigang, connected through skype, posted a set of notes, including one titled "Why should you post in iMechanica?" These notes were later incorporated into About iMechanica.
Early May 2006. Lesley Lam installed Drupal, an open-source content management system, on a server at Harvard University. She is user number 1 of iMechanica. Teng Li added and tested two modules: Image and TinyMCE.
8 January 2006. Applied Mechanics News (AMN), the forerunner of iMechanica, was launched as a blog of news and views of interest to the international community of Applied Mechanics. AMN was powered by Blogger, a free blogging engine provided by Google. The first entry of AMN was titled Kyung-Suk Kim won Ho-Am Prize of $200,000.
