Thank you so much for pointing out this site. I've followed the link and quickly looked at CFD Online. It looks very substantial. The site has had over 10 years of history.

By comparison, iMechanica is a baby; we started on September 2006. A while back, in iMechanica Fluid Mechanics Forum, I posted a question, Where are fluid mechanicians? Several people have commented on the question.

All posts on iMechanica are generated by users -- mechanicians like you and me. iMechanica has one part-time employee, Eloy Villanueva, an undergarduate in mechanical engineering at Harvard. He works on the site no more than 8 hours a week.

If you are looking for a fluid mechanics forum, and cannot find one, then iMechanica can be your forum. All you need to do is to recruit a few colleagues and start to discuss matters of interest to you. Who knows? In a few months, you might have a useful thread like this one on open-source finite element codes, or this one on thermodynamics. You may be part of the Journal Club. Most importantly, you will find your own ways to help yourself. If some fluid mechanicians start to use iMechanica Fluid Mechanics Forum, it will blossom.

iMechanica runs like a common, such as Boston Common or The Central Park. iMechanica belongs to whoever uses it.

Missing a fluid mechanics related forum

Dear all,

I envy the CFD community, due to their http://www.cfd-online.com/Forum/, where a frequent discussion is going on. I have spend some time to find a fluid mechanics related forum, where students and researchers can exchange idears, however I did not find anything. I am not sure if this forum should degenerate to a forum similar to the CFD Forum. Maybe it would be nice if a similar forum could evolve.
