Dear i-mechanicians, we are recruiting 4 students for PhD courses in Mechanical Engineering / Solid Mechanics. These positions are ONLY open to UK or EU applicants. Please read the requirements of the specific position before you apply! All positions will cover fully university/college fees and a tax-free maintenance stipend, paid at the standard EPSRC rates. Grade 7: Salary £28,839 - £35,469 p.a.

We are seeking a well-organised and motivated individual to work on
an EPSRC/Dstl funded research project, aimed at developing novel
methodologies for numerical simulation of deformation and failure of
composite materials at multiple length scales in impact engineering of
marine structures. Based at Engineering Science, Parks Road, Oxford
this post is available immediately for three years.

PhD studentship @ University of Oxford

A fully funded PhD research studentship is available at the University of Oxford, in the Solid Mechanics Group.

The associated research project is funded by EPRSC, DSTL and a number of industrial partners including BAE Systems and Rolls-Royce Marine. The aim of the project is to investigate the dynamic loading of composite components of submarines, including fluid-structure interaction phenomena and the non-linear mechanical response of fibre composite materials. The approach will integrate experimental observations, numerical simulations and theoretical analyses, and the research student will have access to excellent laboratory and computing resources.
